Michael McCoy, CPA, CBA, CVA, CFF

Mike is no longer a shareholder at McCoy Foat, but he continues to help lead our team as he passes the baton.

Michael began his accounting career after earning degrees in quantitative methods and accounting from the University of Oregon. He worked a few years for a national tax firm before joining Portland General Electric (PGE), first as the head of its securities and exchange department, and later overseeing accounting. From there, Michael accepted a position as a vice president for North American Energy Services, where he managed large thermal energy projects, as well as mergers and acquisitions. In 1987, Michael finally yielded to his entrepreneurial calling and set up his own firm. A few years later, in 2001, he joined forces with Mark Foat and Dick Gassner to establish McCoy Foat and Company.

Today, with 25 years of experience under his belt, Michael excels in all areas of tax planning and business strategy. He holds the Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the Certified Valuation Analyst and Certified Business Appraiser designations. He provides business appraisals for gift/estate tax and other general purposes, including litigation support. He is a licensed business/real estate broker in the state of Oregon.

Michael’s guiding philosophy is, “There’s no such thing as a dead end. There’s always another way to achieve the desired outcome.” He enjoys serving as his clients’ off-site, on-call CFO and developing strategic plans to enhance growth and profit. His sharp eyes never fail to uncover ways to optimize efficiency, motivate teams and hone pricing structures — all in the quest for better business. Michael resides in Oregon City with his dog, Rashna. He enjoys boating, scuba diving and cycling.
